Taylor pens Newcastle extension

Ryan Taylor has signed a two-year contract extension with Premier League club Newcastle United.

The versatile 27-year-old has made 25 league appearances for the St James Park outfit this season, scoring two goals and featuring at both left-back and on the right-hand side of midfield.

Taylor, whose new deal runs until 2015, originally joined Newcastle from Wigan Athletic in February 2009.

I am delighted to secure a contract extension for Ryan, manager Alan Pardew told Newcastle s official website.

He has been outstanding for me this season wherever I have asked him to play.

Ryan is a fantastic player who is firmly in the hearts of our fans, not only for his derby winner against Sunderland but also because of some excellent performances in the …

Wallace released by Burnley

Ross Wallace is set to be released by Burnley following the club s relegation from the Premier League.

The 29-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season and will not be renewed, has made165 appearances for the Turf Moor outfit since arriving from Preston North End in 2010, scoring 13 goals.

It s a sad day for me to be leaving Burnley, he said.  I have thoroughly enjoyed five terrific years at the club and made many friends.

I would like thank the manager, his staff, the players and the supporters for all their backing and I wish the club every success in the future.

Veteran defender Michael Duff, meanwhile, has entered negotiations over a new contract.

Wallace s departure follows the announcement earlier this week that Steven…

De Bruyne wants Foden to stay at Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne wants Phil Foden to stay at Manchester City for the long term after the 18-year-old made his full Premier League debut against Cardiff City.

Pep Guardiola s side moved back to the top of the table, a point above Liverpool, after goals from De Bruyne and Leroy Sane sealed a 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.

Foden was twice denied by goalkeeper Neil Etheridge and hit the post as he marked his first top-flight start with an impressive performance in midfield.

It has been suggested Foden could follow the example of Jadon Sancho by leaving City for the chance of more regular first-team football abroad, despite signing a new contract until 2024 last December.

But De Bruyne is keen for his young team-mate to enjoy a long career at his boyhood club …

Saint-Etienne 1-3 Paris Saint-Germain: Neymar injured as Di Maria and Marquinhos spare Pochettino´s

Neymar suffered a potentially serious injury as Paris Saint-Germain laboured to a 3-1 win over 10-man Saint-Etienne.

Looking for a response after their defeat to Manchester City in midweek, not to mention the speculation over Mauricio Pochettino s future, PSG fell flat for much of Sunday s game.

But Angel Di Maria and Marquinhos, who scored twice, came up with the goods, with Lionel Messi assisting all three of his side s goals in a victory that was only sealed late on.

Di Maria and Marquinhos netted in the closing stages after the defender had earlier cancelled out Denis Bouanga s opener, with Timothee Kolodziejczak sent off for the struggling hosts before the break.

However, PSG will now hold concern over Neymar, who was taken off on a stretcher with…

Flick admits Bayern ´lacking a few per cent´ after Lewandowski bails out Bundesliga champs

Hansi Flick conceded Bayern Munich are lacking a few per cent after being bailed out by four-goal hero Robert Lewandowski in their dramatic 4-3 Bundesliga win over Hertha Berlin.

Bundesliga champions Bayern s 32-game unbeaten streak was ended in a shock 4-1 loss to Hoffenheim last week and they nearly dropped two more points on Sunday.

Lewandowski scored either side of half-time to give Bayern a commanding lead, only for Jhon Cordoba and Matheus Cunha to level up for Hertha in an action-packed contest.

Prolific striker Lewandowski completed his hat-trick with five minutes remaining but Jessic Ngankam equalised for the stubborn visitors.

Just when it looked as though Bayern were going to slip up for a second league game running, Lewandowski converted a pen…
